Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?

Excluding the cost of the donor cars, budgets start from around $65k, and depend on final design, car options and accessories. The donor vehicle budgets should be from around $35k to $60k, depending on condition, mileage and history.

Can you find me a donor car?

Yes, we are happy to help you identify a vehicle for purchase that fits your needs and is ideal for conversion.

What is done with parts that are removed from the car?

We can certainly box and ship you any parts that are removed from the car, such as suspension and interior components. As parts are removed from the car, we can discuss what we have found to be of value and worth shipping.

What can I customize with my build?

We consult with you to determine exact needs. While we have a relatively set conversion process (in terms of what is added to the chassis or modified), we can customize chassis and suspension tuning along with aesthetics and functional components (both inside and out).

Is there a car I can drive?

Depending on location, we may have one of our prototypes available for a demo ride.

What makes this different than other safari-style builds?

Many of today’s safari builds are built for occasional use on gravel roads or as cars-and-coffee attention getters. As such, the modifications made to them are superficial and not meant for hard off-road use.

The Overland 911 is meant to be driven hard, day after day. They are built not just for show (though they perform in this function as well) but rather, for use. We have invested heavily in re-engineering the critical components and then tested the cars in every condition from desert, gravel, snow to road.

We take a process-oriented approach to our builds to ensure the results are consistent. This includes powder coating critical suspension and brake components, adequately shielding the underbody and drivetrain, adding fully tuneable and adjustable coilover suspension, modifying the interior and exterior, and incorporating accessories. The REmade car can be reliably and regularly driven in harsh conditions, year-round.

To what extent is the car waterproofed?

While the car is not meant for river crossings, we do everything we can to seal the front trunk as well as the main cabin, so that driving through shallow water is possible.

How long has the Overland 911 been in development?

Our original Overland car has been in development for over two years, including three revisions of building and testing, and has been our test bed for many suspension, engine, exterior and interior components. We have tested the car in all weather, from -10°F in ice and snow to 100°F in desert driving.

What years and models of 911 do you currently support?

We are focused on the SC and Carrera 3.2 generation of 911, ideally 3.2 liter cars which were in production from 1983 to 1989. In our opinion, the more robust powerband of the 3.2 engine works better than older model engines off-road. However, we would be happy to convert older mechanically reasonable cars — modified or stock.

Will you support older or later Porsche models?

Our sweet spot is presently in the 1980s, where we believe we can find the best intersection of the manual revision of the car with the looks, power and transmission. If you would be like to discuss other models and years, please contact us.

Where do you source your components?

In most cases, we have relationships with specialty shops that make our machined components (for example: suspension parts) or we fabricate the parts ourselves. Our engineering process spans everything from 3d CAD and CAM to 3D printing and traditional machining. Our interior components are built in Northern California at our interior partner’s factory (per customer specification) and shipped to us for installation.

How long does the conversion process take?

Every car is a little different, but we can turn around a complete conversion in as little as 90 days. Conversion time depends on various factors including options, part availability — and of course — the size of our work queue.

Why do you call it the Overland 911?

The Overland 911 name is an indication of just how comprehensive our build process is. The car is still a 911 once converted, but a very different type of 911. A 911 that can go anywhere, and take a beating on the journey.

We don’t just raise the car and add off-road wheels, lights and a skid plate for show. Our build process in intensive, with adequate armoring and chassis modifications to stand up to the elements. The Overland 911 is built to go just about anywhere you would want to take it, with engineering, experience and quality that sets our work apart from the“looks only” crowd.

Do you have plans to support any other models from OEMs outside of Porsche?

No. At the moment we are air-cooled Porsche 911 focused.

To what extent can you modify my engine for greater output?

We don’t modify engine internals in any way (except by request), but do modify the exhaust and provide a chip tune. For customers who would like a more built engine we are happy to provide rebuild services or recommend shops we can coordinate with on the build.

The final drive gear ratio can also be changed to keep the engine in the powerband at lower speeds.

Resolute has a few skunkworks-style projects that will be announced in 2020 and 2021 to enhance engine performance in different ways.

Where are the drop off and pick up locations? Where are the cars converted?

Cars may be dropped off in Northern California or Salt Lake City. They can be picked up in Salt Lake City or in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Why? While the bulk of our fabrication work is done in Northern California, the cars can’t be driven and tuned there. That’s why we take them to a place where that is possible. Either facility, weather permitting, makes for a great pickup location and a great first test ground for you. These locations also help to save on some taxes and avoid California government headaches.

Can you help me arrange shipping?

We are more than happy to work with you to arrange shipping. Our Salt Lake City facility is an excellent hub for shipping cars worldwide. We can arrange pick up and drop off shipping (to and from) anywhere in the US or Europe.

What expertise does Resolute Motorsports have in the Porsche tuning space?

We have 20+ years of road racing experience along with an engineering background specializing in suspension and chassis design. We have over 30 years of combined experience working and racing air-cooled Porsches. We also compete in a variety of events every year — including the Pikes Peak Hill Climb — to stay current and at the top of our game.

Where does the Resolute Motorsports name come from?

Resolute Motorsports’ founder, Gal Bar-or, is an avid sailor and sailboat racer, and has always loved the story of the J-Class yacht “Resolute.”

What was the inspiration to start this company?

We have a deep love of the Porsche 911 platform, especially the 3.2-liter 915 and G50 generation, with their connection between car and driver. In our minds, that generation represents the 911 pinnacle of design. It was our goal to come to market with a REmade, updated and far more capable vehicle that retains the soul and spirit of the original car.
